Monitis Cloud Monitoring

With Monitis Cloud Monitoring you can automatically install Monitis agent on new servers and monitor performance metrics plus generate notifications when resources are detected to be low, proactive notification to users if a server is lost in the Amazon cloud.

Suitable for Both Public and Private Clouds

With its Universal Cloud Monitoring Framework, Monitis can now sync to other Cloud computing providers very quickly - from Rackspace, GoGrid, Softlayer, and more. Monitis’ Universal Cloud Monitoring Framework will automate monitoring in highly dynamic cloud environments, where customers’ servers maybe added and terminated according to the load by management software or manually.

Given this dynamism, setting up end-user experience monitoring can become a tedious, resource intensive and error-prone process. Monitis’ Universal Cloud Monitoring Framework automates the configuration of external monitoring and server monitoring tools every time a new installation is called for - saving IT managers and system administrators around the world enormous time and hassle.

In addition to saving IT managers’ time, Monitis’ Universal Cloud Monitoring Framework gives users the confidence that comes from using a 3rd party tool to monitor Cloud infrastructure in an independent manner.  Even when Cloud computing providers provide some sort of monitoring, there is an inherent conflict of interest – as they are keen to show higher uptime. By providing a customized, independent audit of SLAs (service level agreements), Monitis’ Universal Cloud Monitoring Framework increases the credibility of Cloud computing providers claims, which ultimately benefits both users and the industry, as a whole.

Abstract Cloud Monitoring Framework

First, it helps to control Amazon Web Services' costs. Companies that utilize cloud computing can find costs escalate when they use auto-scaling mechanisms to add extra Amazon EC2 virtual servers on demand and, due to bugs or misconfigurations, processes get out of control.

Second, Monitis EC2 automatically adds monitors and notifications with an automatic discovery process for newly launched URLs, cutting down on time-consuming setups of other external monitoring services.

Third, Monitis automates agent deployment on each newly launched virtual server, saving time-consuming setup and allowing for deep, process level monitoring and detailed performance analysis.

Fourth, Monitis maintains historical data on each virtual server start and stop and performance data, allowing failure and root cause analysis.

And finally, Monitis EC2 allows you to monitor installed software on each virtual server, along with other parameters, and smoothes the configuration management of large numbers of servers in the cloud.

How Monitis Cloud Monitoring Works?

How can Monitis help you in setting up Amazon Web Services monitoring within a very short span of time? This can be explained in the following steps. Firstly, Amazon keys should be added into the Monitis account and then EC2 and/or S3 monitoring should be enabled. Then, you must setup the notification rule on the maximum number of virtual server instances which are running at that time. Then, it will guide you through the setting up of the external monitors for each new EC2 server instance. Next, it will ask you to setup agent auto-deployment for each server. If the user wants to have the advantage of auto deployment, he must input the security key, which may be changed later as per the user's choice.

Then, if the user selects auto deployment, he must specify which parameters and processes are to be monitored on each server and he must also set their threshold values for notifications. Finally, two new tables will be added to customers' dashboards - i.e. running instance table and history table, each having columns with monitoring metrics (e.g. CPU, URL response time, Free Memory). Then, the user may click on these metrics and get the detailed charts for any day as the monitoring has been enabled. In a critical situation, like the termination of server, Monitis can still show the past performance chart, which is very useful to analyze the root cause of failures.
