Monitis is a fifth venture of Hovhannes Avoyan, a recognized software entrepreneur, and his business associates. Monitis is a spin-off from Lycos Europe/Bertelsmann, a prominent web portal that acquired Hovhannes’ previous start-up venture. At Lycos, the Monitis team learned of the drawbacks of existing solutions from within the IT department. Thus, they conceived Monitis with the belief that small and midsize enterprises have critical needs for radically different, cost-effective and easy-to-use monitoring and systems management tools.
The team launched their first free website monitoring service mon.itor.us in March 2006 at the gigantic Cebit trade show in Hannover, Germany. Monitis was launched one year after mon.itor.us – again during the Cebit 2007 show. Although mon.itor.us and Monitis are designed for largely different purposes, target groups and business models, they are complementary services witrh many synergies.
